Formerly Director of Sports Medicine and Fellowship Director for the Boston University Orthopedic Surgical Sports Medicine Fellowship which he founded, Dr. Schepsis joined Coastal Orthopedics in 2013, based in Beverly Massachusetts, and is part of the Beverly-Lahey Health System. He continues to maintain his academic position as Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Schepsis is also a Master Instructor in Advanced Knee and Shoulder Techniques for the Orthopedic teaching center in Rosemont, Illinois in conjunction with the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Schepsis graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts before being admitted to the Boston University School of Medicine. Upon earning his Doctorate of Medicine, Dr. Schepsis completed an internship in General Surgery at the Boston University Medical Center, followed by a residency in Orthopedic Surgery. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and later earned board certification through the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
A prolific author, Dr. Schepsis has over 100 publications in several journals, including the Journal of Arthroscopy, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, Techniques in Knee Surgery, the American Journal of Sports Medicine, and the American Journal of Orthopedics. Dr. Schepsis has been a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Orthopedic Surgery and Physical Therapy, the Journal of Arthroscopy, and the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He has also published a textbook on sports medicine, utilized for orthopedic surgical residents in training worldwide.
Dr. Schepsis is considered a worldwide expert on the treatment of patellofemoral disorders, having published techniques on reconstructive patellofemoral surgeries, as well as a member of the international Patellofemoral Study Group and the Patellofemoral Foundation. He is also considered an expert on the management of pectoralis major ruptures, cartilage repair and restoration procedures of the knee and shoulder, resurfacing procedures in the knee and shoulder, multiligament injuries, and open and arthroscopic reconstructive procedures of the knee and shoulder.
As a Master Instructor for the AAOS and AANA for reconstructive procedures of the shoulder, Dr. Schepsis has a special expertise and interest in shoulder arthroplasty, including total and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, and the management of fractures around the shoulder girdle.
Dr. Schepsis is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
